IT Manager 


uShip is hiring an IT Manager to lead the delivery and management of enterprise-wide IT services and infrastructure, while ensuring strong, organization-wide security practices. In this role, you will oversee the operation of critical IT systems, embed security at every level, and drive the development of scalable strategies that protect both our users and our technology environment. You’ll play a key role in aligning IT and security initiatives with business goals, enabling innovation, resilience, and long-term growth. 

In addition to managing IT systems and safeguarding enterprise security, you will lead advancing cross-functional technology initiatives and uncovering opportunities for automation and ongoing improvement. As an advocate for user-centric technology, you’ll ensure that systems are not only secure and reliable but also optimized to enhance the employee experience. The ideal candidate will bring strong collaboration skills, a proactive problem-solving mindset, and the ability to build trust and influence across both internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of experience leading security and technology teams 
  • Hybrid role requiring 2–3 days per week at our Austin headquarters 
  • ITIL Foundation certification with hands-on experience implementing ITIL-based processes 
  • Experience working across a broad range of IT environments, including network infrastructure, OS platforms, client/server frameworks, and end-user computing 
  • Proven experience leading all aspects of the incident response lifecycle 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of core and advanced IT controls, leading industry frameworks, and cybersecurity best practices 
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks 
  • Proficient with security tools including SIEM systems, endpoint detection and response (EDR) platforms, and threat intelligence technologies 
  • Excels at designing efficient, scalable processes and using analytical insights to influence operational excellence 
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and leaders through well-reasoned, data-driven solutions 
  • Maintains excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills to effectively work with a wide spectrum of stakeholders 
  • Comfortable working autonomously in ambiguous, fast-moving environments 


Responsibilities 

  • Lead the team in delivering reliable and secure technology solutions 
  • Direct the selection of technology standards and establish performance metrics and reporting tools to enable leadership to evaluate the return on technology investments 
  • Manage the IT portfolio to align resources, budgets, and schedules with business goals, delivering cost-effective solutions across the full system lifecycle 
  • Oversee IT incident response activities, including root cause identification, analysis, and resolution of the incident and vulnerabilities 
  • Apply a data-informed approach to drive continuous improvement, evaluate outcomes, and standardize practices for sustained quality and consistency 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement IT strategies, plans, and initiatives that align with business objectives 
  • Establish and promote IT security standards, ensuring best practices are developed and executed by the team 
  • Partner with senior leadership to align compliance efforts with uShip’s risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices 
  • Lead the management of identity and access controls, encompassing multi-factor authentication, user permissions, and secure integration points 
  • Approach complex problems with a process-driven mindset—identify operational gaps and apply innovative thinking to implement impactful solutions 


Onboarding

By Day 30 (Foundation Building) 

  • Stakeholder mapping: Identify key stakeholders and understand their needs and expectations 
  • Department overview: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the IT department’s structure, roles, and responsibilities 
  • IT systems & processes: Become familiar with the IT department’s core technologies and standard processes 
  • Documentation assessment: Review existing documentation, policies, and procedures 
  • Key focus areas: Identify key projects and initiatives that require immediate attention 

By Day 60 (Integration & Contribution) 

  • Collaboration & engagement: Participate in team meetings and collaborate through meaningful contributions 
  • Progressive project participation: Engage in projects with a focus on gradually expanding scope and accountability 
  • Relationship development: Cultivate trust and communication with internal teams, leadership, and external stakeholders 
  • Performance oversight: Monitor progress on assigned projects and identify potential issues to ensure timely resolution 
  • Documentation & standardization: Formalize and document operational processes and best practices 

By Day 90 (Delivery & Execution) 

  • Leadership & facilitation: Drive team engagement through expert leadership and collaborative facilitation 
  • High-impact projects: Assume greater responsibility by leading complex projects and showcasing strong leadership skills 
  • Strategic planning: Contribute to strategic planning and provide input on organizational decision-making 
  • Mentorship: Empower team members through mentorship and foster a positive, collaborative atmosphere that encourages growth and development 
  • Progress optimization: Evaluate project progress, identify improvement areas, and execute solutions to enhance outcomes 


Location:  Austin, TX 78701, local hybrid team environment.  Ability to go into office required. 

Salary:  $140-150k base salary (total comp includes paid insurance, 401k matching, office and wellness reimbursements, etc.)
