Legal Support Specialist (Part-Time)
uShip is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Support Specialist to join our Legal team. Reporting to uShip’s Corporate Counsel, this role will support legal operations across a variety of areas including contracts, compliance, intellectual property, and privacy. The ideal candidate will have paralegal experience and a strong interest in transportation law, marketplace platforms, and data protection.
In the role, you will work with cross-functional team members to identify and provide creative solutions to mitigate legal risks impacting uShip’s online shipping marketplace. As part of uShip’s legal team, you’ll participate in key legal activities including: working with customers and law enforcement to respond to subpoenas, UCC filings, and supporting cross-functional legal initiatives. You will work to help ensure our legal contracts are reviewed, catalogued, and up to company legal standards. uShip is looking for someone who is not shy about tackling the unknown, a problem solver who strives to understand the intricacies of transportation law on a global scale and the impact it has on marketplace platforms. Job Responsibilities
- Support the legal needs of uShip and its wholly owned subsidiary
- Analyze, summarize, and respond to legal requests and other documents (e.g. subpoenas)
- Conduct legal research and assist in preparing documentation.
- Cooperate with law enforcement in escalated disputes
- Perform administrative duties including the tracking and cataloguing of contracts
- Draft, review, and interpret a variety of corporate / transactional contracts (MSAs, NDAs, vendor agreements)
- Assist Corporate Counsel in their role of Data Protection Officer (DPO) by researching privacy laws (GDPR (EU/UK), CPRA, TDPSA) and proposing risk mitigation strategies.
- Establish best practices and legal processes aligned with business needs.
- Provide legal research and guidance to cross-functional teams.
- Support copyright portfolio management and brand protection efforts.
- Create legal education materials for internal teams.
- Assist with miscellaneous legal matters including business licenses, insurance, sustainability, employment, and regulatory compliance.
Skills & Experience Required
- Paralegal certification or relevant experience in a legal support role.
- Experience with legal research platforms (FastCase, Westlaw, LexisNexis).
- Working knowledge of legal research and writing and the Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, remain organized, and document progress
- Exhibit accountability, reliability, and initiative
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- High degree of professionalism and ethics
- Exceptional organizational and presentation skills with strong attention to detail

Skills & Experience Preferred
- Knowledge of privacy laws and transportation regulations.
- Familiarity with corporate and transactional law.
- Experience with FastCase, Westlaw, LexisNexis, or other legal research system.
- Experience with corporate and/or transactional law and agreements.
- Experience handling cases/investigations related to e-commerce, online payments, or other digital fraud.
- Experience with litigation, court filings, arbitration, mediation, or settlement negotiations.
- Experience with employment contracts and/or familiarity with employment law.
- Knowledge of national and global privacy laws including GDPR (EU/UK), CPRA, and the Texas TDPSA.
- Knowledge of FMCSA and transportation laws.
Pay Rate: $20 per hour
Location: Remote with hybrid option, office located downtown Austin, TX
